ستستضيف تروجينا دورة الألعاب الآسيوية الشتوية لعام 2029 وقد بدأ العمل بالفعل لتحويل المنطقة القاحلة إلى منتجع مستقبلي.
يعد المشروع جزءًا من مشروع نيوم السعودي الذي تبلغ قيمته 500 مليار دولار (400 مليار جنيه إسترليني) والذي يضم ناطحة سحاب جانبية بطول 75 ميلًا يطلق عليها اسم The Line في قلبه.
المشروع هو من بنات أفكار ولي العهد السعودي الأمير محمد بن سلمان وقد بدأ العمل أيضًا على الهيكل المذهل.
سيتم بناء تروجينا في جبال السروات على بعد حوالي 30 ميلاً شرق ساحل البحر الأحمر، وهي منطقة أكثر برودة بمقدار 10 درجات مئوية في المتوسط عن بقية المنطقة.
وسيكتمل المشروع ببحيرة مياه عذبة من صنع الإنسان ومحمية طبيعية بالإضافة إلى منحدرات التزلج الخارجية.
غالبًا ما تنخفض درجات الحرارة في المنطقة إلى ما دون الصفر في فصل الشتاء، وهي واحدة من المناطق القليلة جدًا في المملكة الصحراوية التي تشهد تساقط الثلوج.
ولكن كانت هناك بالفعل تساؤلات حول ما إذا كان سيكون هناك ما يكفي من الثلوج الطبيعية لدعم أنشطة الرياضات الشتوية.
يُظهر مقطع فيديو ترويجي رائع المتزلجين وهم يشقون طريقهم من الصحراء إلى الجبال. في شمال غرب منطقة تبوك بالمملكة العربية السعودية.
وفي حين أن اللقطات قد تظهر تساقط الثلوج ومنحدرات بيضاء نقية، فقد اعترف جان باترسون، العضو المنتدب لشركة نيوم، بأن “ما يصل إلى 70 في المائة” منها ستكون مصطنعة.
ويعتقد فريزر ويلكين، خبير الثلوج، أن كمية الثلوج ستكون “بلا معنى”.
وقال إنه قد يكون هناك “أمطار أو عاصفة غريبة في الشتاء” ولكن ستكون هناك “أشهر كاملة في نهاية سماء زرقاء صافية”.
والهدف هو الانتهاء من المنتجع بحلول عام 2026 عندما يبدأ في استقبال بعض من 700 ألف زائر تأمل في جذبهم كل عام.
وسيتم إيواؤهم في شقق وشاليهات وقصور بالإضافة إلى الفنادق، بحسب الموقع الإلكتروني للمشروع.
تقول نيوم: “ستصبح تروجينا واحدة من أكثر الوجهات المبهرة في نيوم وفي جميع أنحاء العالم”.
كما أثيرت أسئلة حول الادعاءات بأن المنتجع سيكون مستدامًا.
مشروع ضخم
سيتطلب بناء تروجينا “تفجير أجزاء كبيرة من المناظر الطبيعية” لبناء بحيرة صناعية في وسط المنتجع، حسبما ذكرت بلومبرج.
تقول الدكتورة مادلين أور، المؤسس والمدير المشارك لمجموعة علم البيئة الرياضية بجامعة لوبورو، إن صنع الثلج والجليد سوف يستهلك أيضًا موارد هائلة.
وقالت: “مما لا شك فيه أن موارد الطاقة والمياه اللازمة لمنشآت التزلج وحلبات التزلج على الجليد ستكون غير عادية”.
“سأراقب لأرى كيف سيحققون ذلك، لكن لدي مخاوف جدية بشأن أي ادعاءات بأن هذا الحدث سيكون مستدامًا.”
وفي الوقت نفسه، بدأ البناء بالفعل في مشروع The Line الذي يبلغ طوله 110 أميال، حسبما تظهر لقطات الطائرات بدون طيار التي صدرت في نهاية العام الماضي.

يمكن رؤية عدد لا يحصى من الشاحنات وجرافات التربة وهي تتجول حول موقع البناء عندما تبدأ العمل.
يتضمن المشروع أيضًا خططًا لإنشاء مدينة ضخمة عائمة تسمى أوكساجون قبالة ساحل البحر الأحمر والتي سيتم ترتيبها حول مربعات مليئة بالمياه مرتبطة بالقنوات.
لكن نشطاء حقوق الإنسان دعوا الشركات الغربية إلى مقاطعة المشروع بسبب سجل المملكة العربية السعودية المروع في مجال حقوق الإنسان.
وحكم على ثلاثة من رجال القبائل العام الماضي بالإعدام لرفضهم مغادرة منازلهم لإفساح المجال لموقع البناء.
وكان الثلاثي من قبيلة الحويطات قد احتجوا على إجلائهم القسري من منطقة تبوك الشمالية.
واتهم عبد الرحيم الحويطات، وهو منتقد بارز لمشروع نيوم الباهظ، المسؤولين بـ “إرهاب الدولة”.

Trojena will host the 2029 Asian Winter Games and work has already begun to transform the barren region into a futuristic resort.
The project is part of Saudi Arabia’s $500billion (£400bn) NEOM project which has a 75 mile long sideways skyscraper dubbed The Line at its heart.
The project is the brainchild of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and work has also begun on the incredible structure.
Trojena will be built in the Sarawat mountains about 30 miles east of the Red Sea coast, an area which is 10C cooler on average than the rest of the region.
While the footage might show flakes of snow falling and pristine white slopes, Neom managing director Jan Paterson reportedly admitted “up to 70 per cent” of it will be artificial.
Fraser Wilkin, an expert on snow, believes the amount of snow will be “meaningless”.
There might be “the odd shower or storm in the winter” but there will be “whole months on end of clear blue skies”, he said.
The aim is to get the resort completed by 2026 when it will begin to welcome some of the 700,000 visitors it hopes to lure each year.
They will be housed in apartments, chalets and mansions as well as hotels, according to the project’s website.
“Trojena will become one of the most dazzling destinations in NEOM and across the world,” says NEOM.
There have also been questions raised about claims the resort will be sustainable.
VAST PROJECT
The construction of Trojena would require “blowing up large portions of the landscape” to build an artificial lake in the centre of the resort, reports Bloomberg.
Making the snow and ice will also consume vast resources, says Dr Madeline Orr, founder and co-director of the Sport Ecology Group at Loughborough University.
“Undoubtedly, the energy and water resources required for ski facilities and ice rinks will be extraordinary,” she said.
“I’ll be watching to see how they make it happen, but I have serious concerns about any claims this event will be sustainable.”
Meanwhile, construction has already begun on 110-mile long project The Line, drone footage released at the end of last year shows.
Footage published by Saudi Arabian drone operators OT Sky and respected architecture magazine Dezeen shows the groundworks for the huge structure.
Countless trucks and earthmovers can be seen rumbling around the building site as they begin work.
The project also includes plans for a floating Megacity called OXAGON off the Red Sea coast thatwould be arranged around water-filled squares linked by canals.
But human rights activists have called on western firms to boycott the development because Saudia Arabia’s appalling human rights record.
Three tribesman were last year sentenced to death for refusing to leave their homes to make way for the construction site.
The trio from the Howeitat tribe had protested against their forcible eviction from the northern Tabuk province.
Abdul Rahim al-Howeitat, a prominent critic of the exorbitant Neom development, accused officials of “state terrorism”.
